education gap

I was evaluating the development and training of our new call center people yesterday. Needless to say, the 1 week training that we employed is not nearly enough to bring the people up to the desired level not even to my own personal standards. Makes me wonder, how the person who used to manage this group could make so much money for himself despite the fact that he is incapable of leading or managing a group or business or specifically a call center as i have just observed.

Moving a long, i noticed that there is definitely a education and skills gap in this country. Many of top management between the ages of 50-65 years old seem to lack the adaptability, the exposure and the dynamism that is required in business today. At the same time, rank and file people of ages 23-27 seem to be having a lack of exposure to international standards, english deficiency, comprehension gaps, and a lack of proper communication skills. Makes me wonder how it is that these gaps skip generations. It may be traced to government education policies at the time or brain drain. But the fact of the matter is, people are getting dumber, as the basic skills and knowledge requirements of the world is going up.

This gives me no reason to doubt, why the Philippines is o where near developing nor is it ready for globalization as only the financially capable have access to good education and even they dont fully maximize it. I sometimes wonder if maybe i really am destined to teach at some point in my life. Maybe sooner than later. Cuz im just too idealistic to let a bad thing continue going on.
